Glossary

Ordinals

Bitcoin protocol family for numbering sats and inscribing data; conceptual ancestor of Doginals-style Dogecoin inscriptions.

Last reviewed:

Ordinals (Bitcoin) is the protocol and theory associated with Casey Rodarmor for ordering individual satoshis and inscribing arbitrary data onto them. The December 2022–2023 Bitcoin inscription wave popularized “on-chain NFTs” without Ethereum contracts.

Doginals adapt the idea of permanent on-chain inscriptions to Dogecoin. They are not the same network, indexer set, or fee market. Comparisons should stay technical: shared mental model, different chain.
